VMWare from being scared to fighting back

Last week VMWare’s Pat Gelsinger was gathering troops during the partnership conference @ Vegas to attack Amazon.

“if a workload goes to Amazon [Web Services], you lose, and we have lost forever. We want to own corporate workload … We all lose if they end up in these commodity public clouds. We want to extend our franchise from the private cloud into the public cloud and uniquely enable our customers with the benefits of both. Own the corporate workload now and forever.”

Today VMWare into the action plan. They’ve picked a very busy day for that!

First, Andy Rubin (founder and driver of Android) is handing over Android to Sundar (Chrome driver)

Followed by Pivotal spin off that I wrote earlier about in Let my people go…

Now, VMWare announcement of Hybrid Cloud Services which places them as a direct competitor with Amazon EC2. The vCloud Hybrid Cloud Service will be available later this year.

To add to that EMC is thinking about buys SoftLayer for $2B.

If EMC successfully buys SoftLayer, the largest privately held cloud-computing and Web-hosting service provider, that will be a boost to EMC and VMware’s new cloud-computing plans, including boosting their Pivotal spinout.
